Ferry Opponents Lose First Round
In State Supreme Court in Mineola on March 7, Justice Robert Roberto denied the request made by the North Shore Environmental Alliance, (NSEA), and the Village of Sea Cliff to stop passenger ferry service operating between Glen Cove and New London, Connecticut. Justice Roberto did not agree with the argument offered by the ferry opponents that irreparable injury would occur to the environment if the ferry service continues. Justice Roberto ruled that the ferry service and construction of additional facilities should not be expanded until the volumes of papers presented by both sides have been reviewed by the judge to whom the case will be assigned.

Meeting Set to Discuss North Shore Library District
Representatives of the Nassau Library System will join resident committee persons Amy Kempton, Rosemarie Ryba, Marilyn Genoa, Fran Sciarrino and Miles Sibell in a presentation and open discussion of efforts to obtain public library privileges for residents of the unserved portion of North Shore School District community. The meeting will take place Wednesday, March 22, 7:30 p.m. at North Shore High School auditorium.

Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports
It hasn't been since 1979 that a Glen Cove High School basketball team had earned a spot in the Nassau County Finals. But last Thursday night the Big Red traveled to Farmingdale High School where they took their place on the court in front of an overflow crowd of fans to take on #3 seed Westbury for the 'B' Crown.

Matinecock Pistol Team Suffers First Defeat
On Wednesday, March 1 the second seasonal pistol match of the Gold Coast Pistol League was hosted by the Matinecock Rod and Gun Club of Glen Cove at the Glen Cove Pistol Range. Manhasset Bay Sportsman's Club handed Matinecock their first defeat in their last five outings. Manhasset Bay scored 1035 to Matinecock's 1028. Finishing third was the Glen Cove Police Department's PBA squad with a score of 1003, and there was a tie between Mill River Road and Gun Club of Bayville and The Gun Club of Glen Cove with each team shooting a 994.
