John W. "Jack" Sullivan died after a short illness in Tampa, FL, on Jan. 18, 2000. He was 80 years old. Jack's wife of 57 years, the former Eileen Frances Beers ("Lovie" to her grandchildren) passed away in August of last year. Jack and Eileen were both born and raised in Glen Cove and had been sweethearts since the seventh grade at St. Patrick's Elementary School. Eileen was a graduate of the Pratt Institute. Jack was a Chaminade High School and St. John's University graduate and was an officer in the Army Air Corps early in WWII. Jack and Eileen were married at the chapel at Yale, New Haven, where Jack was an instructor for the Army Air Corps. Later in the war, Jack and Eileen returned to Glen Cove where they began their family.
Jack was involved in the sale of electronic equipment and then as a technical writer for the McGraw Hill Book Co. He then began a successful career as an advertising executive in Manhattan, first with W. Douglas McAdams, then several years with Burdick & Becker in the field of pharmaceutical advertising. He was later associated with the Basford Agency. In the late 1950s Jack and Eileen moved their family to Fort Lauderdale, FL, where Jack was sales manager for Airpax Electronics. In 1960 Jack returned to NY, the Burdick & Becker agency and pharmaceutical advertising.
In 1965, Jack founded Navillus Publishing Co. in Stamford, CT, and was the creator and publisher of Medical Marketing & Media - a well respected trade journal in the field of pharmaceutical advertising.
In 1982 Jack and Eileen left their homes in Pound Ridge and Montauk and retired to Fort Meyers and Sanibel Island, FL. Jack enjoyed a life-long interest in amateur radio, had been a licensed "ham" radio operator since he was a teenager, a member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the the American Radio Relay League and a licensed private pilot.
Jack and Eileen are survived by their three children, John Jr. of Fleming, NJ, Peter of Fort Salonga and Mary Jane Arnegger of St. Petersburg, FL; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
Hugh H. Hayes, 82, of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of Glen Head, died on Feb. 13, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Blanche (Whelen); children, Gerrie Brown, Hugh Hayes and Cathy Pearson; nine grandchidlren; and sisters, Ellen Winkelmeyer and Margaret Hayes.
Kenneth B. Beyer, 80, of Glen Cove, died on Feb. 20, 2000. Former RCA employee for 34 years, retired in 1982. From 1982-1999 he drove the nursery bus for Congregation Tifereth Israel, Glen Cove. His greatest pleasure and pride were his grandchildren and great-grandson. Husband of Doris. Father of Nancy Sissons (John) and Susan Watkins (Ronald). Grandfather of Jennifer and Jill Barton, Karyn and Ronald Watkins (Amy). Great-grandfather of Nicklas Watkins. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Rev. William Daniello Sr., of Locust Valley, died on Feb. 21, 2000 in his 89th year. He came to the US around 1925 from Padulli, Italy, a self-taught and self-employed proprietor who started his own private carting business, William Daniello & Son in 1936. He was a charter member, past president and treasurer of the Italian-American Mutual Aid Society of Oyster Bay and a former member of the Locust Valley Business Association. Husband of the late Mildred and the late Lucy. Father of Victoria Neville (Late Thomas), Vincent (Gail) and William Jr. (Carole). Brother of Luigi, Antonietta, Ralph, Giuseppe, Maria and Lucia. Grandfather of 12. Great-grandfather of seven. Also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Joseph M. Suozzi, of Glen Cove and London, England, and formerly of Tokyo, Japan, died unexpectedly on Feb. 25, 2000. Devoted husband of Marea and loving father of Maggie and Patrick. Cherished son of Judge Joseph A. and Marguerite Suozzi and son-in-law of Dr. Anne Grosso and Dr. Joseph E. Mule. Beloved brother of Rosemary Lloyd (Lewis), Dr. William (Jacqueline), Christopher (Nicole) and Mayor Thomas R. Suozzi (Helene). A graduate of Chaminade, Boston College cum laude, Northeastern and St. John's Law School. A CPA and attorney he served in various capacities at Morgan Stanley NY and Tokyo, Credit Suisse First Boston Tokyo and London and most recently Deutsche Bank London. Stephen F. Slanina, of Locust Valley, died on Feb. 26, 2000. Husband of the late Loretta. Brother of Louis and the late Frank. Son of the late Frank and Maria.
