Nassau County Museum of Arts' current Exhibit On Our American Revolutionary War is one everyone from 10 to 110 must see!
Cedar Swamp Historical Society's Long Iland flag placed at Long Island University at C.W. Post is on display along with six Revolutionary War documents: Long Iland payroll, soldier's letter to General Clinton pleading for a Long Iland furlough, British New Jersey military map, White family (Southampton) inventory, and a commission signed by Brig. General Nathan Woodhull, commander of all Long Iland military forces, who was fatally wounded at Jamaica. He was president of the Provincial Congress. These items will return to C.W. Post in April.
Amidst this exhibit are Gilbert Stuart's portrait of George Washington (ca. 1824), Stuart's portrait of Joseph Brant (1786), Alanzo Chappel's Battle of Long Iland (1858), Chappel's Hamilton's First Meeting with George Washington (1856), Rembrandt Peale's George Washington (1823), Charles Wilson Peale's Benjamin Franklin (1789), James Peale's George Washington (1782). John S. Copley, John Trumbull, James Hamilton, Ralph Earl, Thomas P. Rossiter, N.C. Wyeth, Henry Bacon, our own Mort Künstler and other artists are represented. The curator did an excellent job procuring these national treasures.
