Mayor Thomas Suozzi inspects newly installed steel bulkheading along Glen Cove Creek

Mayor Thomas Suozzi announced recently that the NYS Department of State has awarded the city a $100,000 Waterfront Rediscovery Grant to design a pedestrian walkway and bicycle path along the water's edge of Glen Cove Creek. "A major part of our waterfront transformation is to construct a walkway from downtown Glen Cove along the water's edge to the end of Garvies Point Road," said Mayor Suozzi. design plans call for the esplanade to be constructed along Glen Cove Creek, tie into Garvies Point preserve and Morgan Park, offering public access as well as connect the downtown business district to a cleaned up, redeveloped waterfront.

The city recently installed sheet steel bulkheading along Glen Cove Creek which will enable the construction of the esplanade, as part of the city's waterfront revitalization project. Waterfront Rediscovery Grants are presented to communities that have made exceptional achievements in initiatives which promote the local waterfront. Additionally, technical assistance through the Department of State and Empire State Development Corporation will be made available.
