A memorial service for Ivy May Germain, a resident of Glen Cove for 30 years, who died suddenly on Dec. 22, 1999, will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Highland Avenue, Glen Cove, at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15.

Revere Gilbert (Sandy) Sanders, 90, a retired aerospace engineer, formerly of Glen Head, died at Applingwood Nursing Home in Memphis, TN. He graduated in 1931 with a degree in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He began his career as a graduate instructor of engineering at the same college. Later, while working as an engineer for Fairchild Camera and Instruments, he served as an American advisor to the Chinese Air Force. As an instructor at the first Army/Air Force Surveying Institute, he directed the first aerial mapping of China under the rule of General Chaing Kai-Shek.
During WWII, Mr. Sanders served in the US Naval Reserve, collaterally assigned to the Manhattan Project, where he directed the project that documented and filmed the research and development of the atomic bomb.
During the early stage of space exploration, Mr. Sanders was on a team of research and development scientists at Fairchild Camera and Instruments. The team designed components for the cameras and radios for NASA that were used on all the early Apollo space mission projects to photograph and map the Lunar and Martian surfaces. He later continued his collaboration with NASA as vice president of Aeroflex Laboratories, Inc.
Mr. Sanders was a past president of the American Society of Photogrammetry. He was elected to the honorary society of Sigma Chi in 1931. He was a past member of the First Congregational Church of Manhasset and the First Presbyterian Church of Naples, FL. He was also a contributing member of many engineering societies and associations throughout his lifetime.
Mr. Sanders retired to Naples where he continued his public service contribution voluntarily designing and building equipment for physical and occupational therapists in the Naples Community Hospital.
Sandy was preceded in death by his wife Janet H. Sanders and leaves two children Shirley S. Warrick of Memphis and Roger O. Sanders of Deland, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Collier County Habitat for Humanity, 11550 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34113.
Catherine Trukafka (nee Freeman), of Jericho, died on Dec. 27, 1999. She was a retired postmaster of the Jericho Post Office. She was born in Glen Cove. Wife of the late William. Dorothy C. Sansone (nee Cook), 69, of Locust Valley, died on Jan. 4, 2000. She was a former teacher in the North Shore School District - Glenwood Landing School for 30 years. Wife of Frank P.
