North Shore High School senior Amy Seng has been named a semifinalist in the prestigious Intel, (formerly Westinghouse), Science Competition. She is one of only 300 students across the nation to be so honored.
Amy is also a semifinalist in the national Merit Scholarship Competition, a member of the National Honor Society and an accomplished athlete who was named All-Conference for field hockey and represented Nassau County at the Women in Sports Foundation dinner in Manhattan.
Amy's project is about, "the possible relationship between the subjective view of time and learning styles." This is both her work for the school's science research program and her Senior Experience project. Faculty members Janice Chen and Richard Galati are her teachers and experimental psychologist Dr. Moira LeMay is her mentor.
"It was pretty scary," said the petite Ms. Seng. "When Ms. Boyrer told me yesterday I was shocked. I didn't have positive results at the time I submitted it, but I'm continuing to work on it."
North Shore Schools Superintendent, Dr. Root presented Amy and her parents during last Monday's Board of Education meeting. Amy received resounding applause for this outstanding distinction. After presenting the title of Amy's topic, Dr. Root asked, "Did I get it right?" To which Amy replied, "You did good."
Amy has received early acceptance to Brown University, but has not yet decided on a future school or career.
