I attended a rally in support of the ferry a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe the angry and rude behavior of the anti-ferry contingent. They tried to drown out the pro-ferry people when they were being covered by the television cameras. They carried placards calling this a "gambling ferry" which it is not. It is a ferry that can take you to New London and Foxwoods resort and casino if you wish. It can also take you to Mystic Seaport or to Martha's Vineyard. This ferry will be a convenience to anyone who would take Amtrak to points in New England, eliminating the LIRR, Penn Station connection. It is not loud nor does it pollute the water anywhere near as much as a common motor boat. The 75-100 cars and fewer when charter buses are used, which will travel for the most part on Glen Cove Road will barely be noticed. The only thing I can think of which could possibly be justification for the anti-ferry anger of a small group from Sea Cliff is that, unlike the Glenwood Landing ferry that almost was, there is no way this ferry will benefit their school tax bill.
