I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to the voters of the 18th legislative district for electing me to serve in the county legislature for the next two years. I am honored to have received the confidence of so many north shore residents, and I promise to do my best to fulfill the expectations of the voters who asked for a change in this election.

I understand that many people voted Democratic merely as a protest against the failed policies of the past few years, and I understand that many people in the 18th district did vote for the incumbent, Mr. Canning. To both groups, I intend to earn your trust and respect through hard work and thoughtful policy-making.

In order to serve the interests of the north shore, I will publish contact information for the Mineola office once it has been set up. I am also searching for a desk somewhere in the district that will allow me to have some office hours for directly serving constituent needs. Given the county's current budget problems, I will, of course, be looking to run this district desk without additional cost to the taxpayers.

My thanks and appreciation go out to John Canning for his years of dedicated community service and for running an upstanding campaign. It has always been my belief that the public is served best when a campaign focuses on the issues of the day, and I thank Mr. Canning for his gentlemanly approach to this election. I wish him the best of success in his new life in the private sector.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to the people of the north shore. I hope to develop a strong relationship with you over the next two years that will allow us to exchange ideas on fixing the budget mess and on preserving the natural beauty of the north shore into the new millennium. Please feel free to call upon me if I can be of any assistance.

Brian Muellers

County-Legislator-Elect
