Republicans Concede Flier on City Taxes Was False
On Oct. 20, the Nassau County Republican Party agreed in open court to hand deliver a document to every household in Nassau County containing the party's apology for inaccurate and misleading information contained in a Republican campaign flier distributed throughout the county last weekend. The offending flier, which in some instances was inserted into the Glen Cove Republican party's campaign piece distributed in Glen Cove last weekend, made the incorrect assertion that Glen Cove Democrats raised taxes by 56 1/2 percent in their six years in office.

City Receives Liquid Assets for STP Upgrades
On Oct. 19, Mayor Thomas Suozzi announced that Glen Cove will be the first city on Long Island to significantly reduce nitrogen discharging from its sewage treatment facility into the Long Island Sound. The city is taking this step voluntarily as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, (DEC), expects to see a 50 percent reduction in nitrogen discharge over several years.

Big Red Rams West Hempstead, 32-8
The Glen Cove High School varsity football team, "Big Red," improved their record to 4 wins, 1 loss, last Saturday with a rousing 32-8 victory over the West Hempstead High School Rams. Once again, the offense rushed for over 300 yards, gaining 364 yards on 41 carries without a single pass attempt. The defense also turned out a fine performance holding the Rams to 170 yards on 44 plays.

Vikings Shuts Out Jericho 28-0
Last Saturday the North Shore Vikings played Jericho easily defeating them 28- 0. North Shore had a excellent all around game. Offensively, strong Chris Conti scored two touchdowns and ran 178 rushing yards. Also, Ben Blackburn had two touchdowns, including an interception in the last minutes of the game. North Shore's defense also dominated with seniors Chris Conti making 15 tackles, and Ben Blackburn making 10 tackles helping to shut out Jericho. North Shore is now (3-2), while Jericho is (0-5).
