  • NEWS: EMS 'Founding Member' to Relocate

    In its short, 15-year-history, Glen Cove Volunteer EMS has increased its number of calls from a few hundred to over 2,000 emergencies per year. And while some of its original members, who served their community for thousands of hours, have moved on to other duties or other states, an original "founding member", the ambulance known as EMS-3, has stood by and taken care of our growing population.   • NEWS: Dominick Genova, A Man for Everyone

    As the founder of Boy Scout Troop 190, Dom served as its Scoutmaster for 17 years. He helped organize Troop 147, and was a Scoutmaster in Glen Cove for more than 30 years. A member of the Shelter Rock District Boy Scouts of America Committee, he was the chairman of the Scoutmaster Round Table Committee, and received the BSA Community Service Award. And, Dom was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in Boy Scouting, the highest Scouting award for adults. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: 23rd Regatta Is a Success Despite Light Winds, Sailors Sail Around Long Island

    What started off as a great sailboat race ended well but not without some doldrums in between. For the 102 boats that started the 23rd Cablevision Around Long Island Regatta hosted by Sea Cliff Yacht Club, the conditions were perfect. Southerly winds at 8-12 knots sailed the fleet across the starting line near Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn on July 29. Unfortunately, the wind did not hold through the first or second nights and the fleet progressed slowly down the south shore of Long Island and across the twin forks. The normally difficult conditions of Long Island Sound proved to be the easiest part of the race. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: GC 16 & Under Girls Undefeated

    As Glen Cove's Mayor's Trophy Tournament heads into the playoff portion of the schedule, Glen Cove residents can look with pride toward a number of Glen Cove teams that are representing the city in what has become Long Island's largest annual tournament. Among the Glen Cove teams that are at or near the top of their respective divisions, the Girls 16 & Under softball team showed its dominance by reaching the playoffs with a perfect 8-0 record.
