  • NEWS: Glen Cove's Memorial Day Commemoration

    On this the last Memorial Day commemoration of this century, the City of Glen Cove Memorial Day Parade Guest of Honor was decorated World War II and Korean War veteran Frank Suszcynski. On behalf of a grateful city, Mayor Thomas Suozzi presented Mr. Suszcynski with a citation in recognition of the veteran's impressive history with the Marines. Mr. Suszcynski, who was moved by having been chosen for the designation as Memorial Day Guest of Honor, thanked everyone for the privilege of representing all veterans of all wars, and most especially everyone who died while serving this country.   • NEWS: Charles and Freda Squires Celebrate 75th Anniversary

    Charles W. Squires and Freda F. Squires will celebrate their 75 wedding anniversary on June 7, 1999. Freda was 98 years old on Feb. 22, 1999 and Charles will be 100 years old on July 14, 1999. And before you read the Squires' wonderful history in Glenwood Landing, Glen Cove and Sea Cliff, we thought you'd like to know, right from the start, their secret to staying married for 75 years. According to Charles Squires, "It takes moderation in everything. And you've gotta marry the right woman." The Squires' daughter, Janet Black, added, "It's got to be genetic, too.     The Glen Cove High School Booster Club hosted the 1999 Spring Varsity Award Night on Tuesday, June 1. On this night the Glen Cove School District recognizes those student athletes who are varsity members and those who have achieved honors in their sport by presenting them with varsity letters, 2nd year pins and 3rd year plaques and various "Special Awards." In what was definitely a year for the record books, Glen Cove sports had even more to celebrate as they wrapped up the spring season. FULL STORY

    The Hurricanes watch is now in effect for Long Island! The Glen Cove Hurricanes, a girls 12-and-under travel soccer team, are offering stiff competition to their opponents in the Long Island Junior Soccer League. This team, which is part of the Glen Cove youth soccer program, plays with heart whether at home or away. The are at the top of their game, as shown in two recent performances. FULL STORY
