The Glen Cove Council of PTAs is proud to announce this year's honorees, for their annual Community Scholarship Dinner Dance, are Liz and Frank Bouza. Liz emigrated to the US from Costa Rica and Frank, originally from Spain, emigrated to the US from Cuba. They met in 1967, soon after married and settled in Glen Cove.

Liz began her career as an aide and translator in the bilingual program in Glen Cove. She worked with students who were facing the same difficulties assimilating into a new country as she did. With Frank's encouragement, Liz went back to school to earn her bachelor's and master's degree.

Liz is presently an English as a Second Language teacher in Deasy and Landing. In 1992 Liz was honored as Teacher of the Year by the New York Executive Board of TESOL. Liz works closely with E.S.L. parents to help the family integrate into their school and community.

Liz volunteers her services for the Outreach Program in Deasy. She has started a new workshop called "Step" for Spanish speaking parents to teach them parenting skills. She also introduced Girl Scouting to Deasy and Landing for her E.S.L. students. Liz is currently on the Landing School's site-based committee.

Frank has been working for the Glen Cove School District for the past 35 years. His caring nature, sense of humor and devotion to all has made him a well-known figure in the high school.

Frank was named Man of the Year by the teacher's union for his devotion to the school district. He has been a member of the Booster Club and has helped build the sets for Masquers. Frank has been involved with the Civil Service Association for many years.

During the holidays, Frank and Liz become "Santa's Elves" and help to bring food, presents and money to needy families in Glen Cove.

The Community Scholarship Dinner Dance will be held on Sunday, March 7 at the Swan Club. All proceeds from the Dinner Dance will be given to the Glen Cove Community Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to deserving graduating seniors of Glen Cove High School. Tickets to the dance are $55 per person and include cocktails, dinner and dancing. Music will be provided by the award-winning Glen Cove High School Jazz Band under the direction of Richard Rosselli.
