This past weekend, John Canning turned his back on our village and all the other villages in his district by voting against a proposal presented and supported by Nassau County Executive Tom Gulotta. We wrote John telling him that the proposal to share a small percentage of the County's Sales Tax revenues with villages was important to our community. He never responded; we assumed he understood. John decided it was more important to play political crony than serve his own people¬that stinks.
At some point in time, our County Legislator John Canning must be held accountable to his voters here in Sea Cliff. John has decided that his wealthier constituents in the estate villages surrounding Oyster Bay and the City of Glen Cove mean more to him than our village. According to mayor of Roslyn, he has even delivered county funds to Roslyn, a village not even in his district.
It is time for him to explain why over three years ago he promised to reconstruct the county's Sea Cliff Park which is adjacent to Sea Cliff's public beach. We have watched the county drag its feet and to date we have received nothing but empty promises and photo opportunities with various groups. Maybe he does not have the clout to get this done and we must be understanding.
You should want to know why he has gone against us concerning the proposed sales tax. If he says he does not want to raise taxes then maybe he has a reason. But he has raised taxes. John, what is your reason for deserting your own hometown?
