Last Tuesday's (10/6) game was an important one. With a 3-1 win over Bellmore JFK, the North Shore Girls Varsity Soccer team moved into a tie for first place. Their record in division is now 5-1. JFK had previously beaten West Hempstead, also 5-1, the team that gave the Lady Vikings their only defeat.
North Shore opened the scoring with a goal from Nicole Jubran. Early into the second half, JFK tied the score at 1-1 off a corner kick. That's when the Lady Vikings decided to turn the game around. With outstanding defense by Kristen Koczen, Meagan Wick, Tia Halom, and Jenny Stein, JFK's top scorers were kept silent. The offense took control of the midfield, and a goal by Kristen Waage on an assist from Kim Kralick gave the Lady Vikings a 2-1 lead. A total of 16 saves by goaltender Kari Feingold kept the lead, and a second goal by Nicole Jubran put the game away.
With a number of new players, and a new coach, Carol Croan, the team has come together and is playing as a unit. This is obvious in the all-around scoring. Twelve different players have scored in the first six games!
Come cheer on the Lady Vikings at home on Tuesday, 10/20, when they face West Hempstead in a very important rematch!
