The Boys varsity soccer team excelled to second place in their league with a record 5 wins and 2 losses. Glen Cove was superb in Thursday's game against North Shore despite the elements. Amid wind and pouring rain, the game remained scoreless at the half but Glen Cove poured it on scoring two quick goals. North Shore fought back with the only goal allowed by Glen Cove's defense. Glen Cove then scored their third and final goal of the game to win 3-1. Goals were scored by Angelo Stanco, Peter Philipakos and Joe Carrotta. Angelo Stanco had two assists and Peter Philipakos had one assist. Great defense was lodged by Rich Desiano and Stelio Suarez, Sahil Jolly, Jose Bamacia and Dan Cavallo. The team's overall record stands at 7-2.

Tuesday's game against Great Neck North was another tough defensive battle, but Glen Cove again came through with a win. Jayson Hahn scored on a direct kick into the top left corner of the net to help Glen Cove blank Great Neck North 1-0. Rich Desiano recorded his third shutout of the season with defenders Sahil Jolly, Jose Bamacia, Sal Martinez and Dan Cavallo again playing a great game. The team is coached by Lonnie Bresnick.

Boys JV Soccer scored and racked up their 7th win of the season this past Tuesday against Great Neck North giving them a record of 7 wins and 1 loss. After a scoreless first half, Glen Cove exploded for 4 second half goals. Anthony Genova kicked in at 4:18 and 17:40; with Ronald Bell at 27:30 and Leo Berg closing out the scoring at 31:20. It was a tremendous team effort as defenders Matt Lindenbaum, Tim Charon, Steve Kaneti, Sal Martinez, Chad Gleason, and Dan Bellissimo limited Great Neck North to zero shots on goal for the entire game.

Last Thursday's game against North Shore was canceled due to a mix-up with officials. The game was rescheduled for October 26th. The team is coached by Kevin Nolan

The girls varsity soccer team is now on the top of their division with a 5-0-1 record. Last Thursday's game against Jericho was another shutout for Glen Cove with a score of 1-0. Joanna Moccia assisted senior captain Hilary Dorfman with a through pass from 20 yards out on the top corner of the box for the only goal of the game. The defenders, led by Julia Schneider, (center half), Sarah Bellissimo, (stopper), and Jamie Basile held Jericho's forward line to only one shot on goal. Stephanie Graziosi posted her fourth shutout of the season. The team is coached by Steve Teachout.

The girls JV soccer team scored their sixth win of the season on Wednesday against Friends Academy. Glen Cove's goals were scored by Karen Marino with her third goal of the season and Eileen Heeren with her second goal of the season. Alexandra Ravener had a great game making 12 saves to record a shutout for her first game as a goalie this season. This game saw Glen Cove's sixth shutout this year. The team is coached by Mark Spruyt.

The JV football squad improved to a 2-1 record with a win over Bellmore JFK this past Saturday. Glen Cove's offense was led by David Paskoff, Zivargo Simmons and Anthony Sullivan in the backfield running behind an offensive line led by Jason Hopkins. The defense held JFK to only one touchdown. Key players were Jeff Ogliesby, Willie Landron and Londell Wheeler. Glen Cove faces West Hempstead next week at home at 9:30 a.m. The team is coached by Mark Checola assisted by Craig Johanson.
