The Big Red advanced to a 3-0 record with a wild 33-32 victory over #4 seeded Roosevelt High School this past Saturday. The game ended with Glen Cove holding onto a one-point lead; Roosevelt had a fourth and inches at Glen Cove's 15-yard line. The Defensive line of Ian McCloskey, Angelo Filippone and David Graziosi held up the QB sneak forcing a fumble that scrambling Ricky Johnson recovered. Roosevelt came to town with "Blue Chip" running back Jerome Pettus. The Big Red "D" was able to contain Pettus (18 carries - 99 yards), but not stop him. Pettus threw for one touchdown, ran for another and ran back a punt 65 yards for a TD. Special teams again shined for Glen Cove; Mike Peluso and Victor Hidalgo both recovered onside kicks expertly placed by kicker Juan Hernandez. Offensively, the Big Red churned out 300 yards vs. a hard-hitting Rough Rider Defense. Matt Capobianco (20 carries for 102 yards) ran for a 25-yard TD and scored on a 10-yard TD pass. Big Doni Baskin had 81 yards on 15 carries and scored the winning touchdown on a 5-yard plunge that capped a 65-yard drive. QB Dustin Grosso showed his versatility, in addition to throwing three TD passes, one to Capobianco, one to Peluso and one to Andrea Devone, Grosso also caught a 23-yard reverse pass from split-end Johnson.
