  • NEWS: School District Offers Apology to Students Falsely Accused

    On Sept. 28, the Glen Cove Board of Education met in the Finley Middle School, which has been the focus of media attention lately, for their regularly scheduled monthly public meeting. The unusually large crowd at the meeting included teachers and staff mainly from the middle and high schools who, as this reporter later learned, came to the meeting to show unity in their discontent with the stalled negotiations regarding the teachers' contract with the district.   • SPORTS: Big Red Rushes to Win at Home

    Glen Cove High School's varsity football team won their second game of the season (17-7) to the cheers of a home crowd this past Saturday (Sept. 26). The Big Red defense held powerful Lynbrook to 57 yards rushing on 18 carries. Dave Graziosi and Angelo Filippone recorded two quarterback sacks to lead the defense. Alex Gratsias had an interception in the end zone to stop a Lynbrook scoring drive. Dave Graziosi ended Lynbrook's comeback hopes with an interception with 45 seconds left in the game. Offensively quarterback Dustin Grosso was 12 of 17 for 128 yards passing, connecting on an 8-yard TD pass to Guido Penafiel. In addition to 128 passing yards, Dustin rushed for 80 yards and was successful on two punt fakes running for 10 yards on one and passing to Ricky Johnson for 23 yards on the other. Kicker Juan Hernandez was two for two on extra points and kicked a 37-yard field goal. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Glen Cove Vipers Tournament Champions

    The Glen Cove Vipers are champions of the 1998 Peter Renzulli Labor Day Tournament. This was the fourth year the vipers have participated in this tournament and this time the team earned the championship. They posted a 4-1-1 record for the tournament. FULL STORY
