On Saturday, June 20, the Flames played a strong Mineola team with only one loss on their record. The Flames came out fast and scored in the first three minutes of play. Top scoring forward Adam Lanza supported by a strong offense put the ball in the net five times and left forward Steven Arominski blasted in another goal to bury Mineola 6-1. Goalie Matt Folan blocked many shots and kept the Flames ahead. The victory was achieved with assists from Frank Grella, Lee Liquori, Matt Jalbert, Garrett Landry and Giovanni Arce.
The final game of the season was played on Sunday, June 21, against rival neighbor North Shore. Once again, scoring machine Adam Lanza tallied the first goal off a corner kick by Frank Grella. Sweeper Mike Lowell assisted on the second goal that North Shore quickly matched before half time. The Flames came out quickly in the second half as Lee Liquori scored the third goal. Frank Grella scored the insurance goal on a blast from outside the 18-yard box. Superb defense by Matt Bryson, Evan Francis, Gabriel Tomaselli, Mike Lowell and Derek Valance kept North Shore scoreless in the second half. Excellent goaltending by Stephen Arominski helped clinch the win.
Congratulations to the Flames and their coaches Bob Bryson, Steve Folan, Ed Jalbert and Mike Liquori on their unbeaten season and the championship.
