We must improve the reputation of our schools and the academic performance of our students. This is what we pay for and should expect ... that's exactly why I am running for the school board on Tuesday May 19.

I am committed to the following goals:

* Raise academic standards and expectations for all students by directing more resources into the classroom.

* Introduce a school uniform policy that brings a sense of purpose, pride, and unity to all our students.

* Address the discipline and cutting problems in our high school and replace all free periods with study halls.

* Create a zero tolerance drug policy in partnership with all parents.

* Reward all good teachers with merit pay and end tenure as we know it.

* Provide 9th through 12th-grade busing with savings from adjustments in administrative salaries.

I don't believe for a minute that the makeup of our schools mean we should accept lower standards and poor report cards. Each and every student has the ability to rise to their true potential. We need to help and encourage them every day.

Please help me by voting in the school board election on Tuesday, May 19. Thank you very much.

Phil Enright
