Registration For The Community Garden Begins

If you are interested in obtaining a plot in Garden City Recreation and Parks’ Community Garden, it is now time to register. Applications will be accepted until May 1. Plots will then be assigned for planting around May 10. If more applications are received than the number of plots available, all applications will be put in a lottery and winners will be notified.

Spring/Summer Adult Tennis Registration Forms Available

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park tennis facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:

Session 1 – 8 weeks beginning  April 21 Cost: $240

(Session 1 will also include Ultimate Workout on Saturdays, 1.5 hours at a cost of $240 for seven weeks)

Session 2 – 4 weeks beginning  July 7 Cost: $120

Session 3 – 4 weeks beginning August 4 Cost: $120

To register, a form will need to be filled out and returned with payment to the recreation department’s administrative offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. Please note, a separate check for each session is need at time of registration.

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Classes are open to both men and women.  Each class in our sessions is one hour long. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.  

The course schedule is as follows:

 Yoga For All: Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Senior Center began April 21. (8 weeks due to holidays, $52)   

Intermediate Yoga: Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall began April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Beginner Yoga: Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall began April 9. (10 weeks, $65)

Spring Youth Tennis

The Garden City Department of Recreation and Parks Tennis Center is pleased to announce the start of registration for its spring program. Spring Tennis classes are offered to Garden City residents ages 4 through 11 years old.  All classes will begin the week of Monday, April 21. The following classes are still available (all classes are 55 minutes long):

Mondays – April 28, May 5, 12, 19, June 2, 9

3 p.m. Tots (beginner lessons for ages 4 – 5) $105

5 p.m. Junior (beginner lessons for ages 8-11)  $165

5 p.m. Junior Advanced (ages 8-11 with experience) $165

Tuesdays – April 29, May 6, 13, 20, 27, June 3, 10

4 p.m. Tots $120

Wednesdays – April 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28, June 4, 11

4 p.m. Tots $120

Thursdays – April 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, June 5, 12

5 p.m. Junior $190

5 p.m. Junior Advanced $190

Fridays - April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, June 6, 13

4 p.m. Novice (ages 6-7 with tennis experience) $165

U.S. Sports Institute Team Up Again

Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks is pleased to announce that they are again working with U.S. Sports Institute to offer a wonderful variety of programs for ages 3 to 13 this spring and summer. All programs are now available on the U.S. Sports Institute’s website at www.ussportsinstitute.com. Read below for all of recreation and parks spring offerings.

Spring Sports Squirts Offerings

There are limited spots available in the US Sports Institute’s Spring Squirts classes for 3–7 year olds. Classes are available on Monday and Tuesday afternoons in T-ball, soccer, and MultiSports. Classes begin the week of April 21 and run for eight weeks. U.S. Sports Institute “Parent And Child” Classes Registration Begins

There are limited spots available in the US Sports Institute’s Spring Parent and Me classes for 2–3 year olds. Classes are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays  in soccer and multisports. Classes begin the week of April 21 and run for eight weeks. Children’s Yoga Classes

Certified yoga instructor Connie McKnight has designed youth yoga classes for ages 6 - 13. Each class in this 8-week session is one hour long. All classes are held at St. Paul’s Senior Center and began the week of April 10. Any resident of the Incorporated Village of Garden City in this age group is invited to join these relaxing classes. The cost of this session will be $72.

The course schedule is as follows:

Ages 6 to 8 Thursdays at 4:15 p.m.

Ages 9 to 13 Thursdays at 5:15 p.m.
