Forty-two-year-old Garden City speedster Karen Pompay took first place honors among the masters (age 40 plus) women in lat month’s Sayville Running Company 10-Mile Run to the Blue Point Brewery.
Pompay crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 13 seconds, more than a full minute in front of front of Christine Hart of Islip Terrace, who was the second place women’s master.
While it wasn’t nearly as warm as it was for the 2012 edition of the run, Mother Nature provided clear skies and a not-too-terrible temperature on that January morning for the 3rd annual running of the Sayville Running Company 10-Mile Run to the Blue Point Brewery. The race’s 1,079 finishers enjoyed a fast, flat 10-mile course from Patchogue through Blue Point and Bayport to Sayville and back followed by one of the best post-race parties around, courtesy of Pete Cotter and his team at the Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue.
