The Recreation Department is pleased to announce a series of family programs this winter sponsored in part by Garden City Rams Girls Lacrosse. GC Rams Girls Lacrosse and Garden City Recreation are working together to offer the following performances in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall:
Sunday, February 13: Plaza Theatrical Production of Sleeping Beauty
Wednesday, February 23: Movie Disney’s The Princess and the Frog
Sunday, March 6: Magic Show
All programs begin at 1 p.m. Please check this column for further information as we draw closer to each performance.
Garden City Recreation would again like to thank Gary O’Connor, Henry Beihoff, and the members of the Garden City Rams Girls’ Lacrosse program for their generous contribution to our winter series.
On Sunday afternoons the St. Paul’s Field House will be open for “Family Fun” for village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym will be available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday until March. This time is designated for family time only. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop off program. The Department asks that elementary-aged children be accompanied by an adult. For the safety of our users, no lacrosse or baseball will be allowed.
Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning Feb. 18. Our classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul’s. The cost of the 10-week program will be $110 (Supplies are bought on your own — a supply list will be handed out at the first class).
This 10-week program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each 3-hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.
Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.
Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in the many Garden City homes.
