The Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, and other squads made an appearance on April 10 at the 55th Annual Little League Parade, led by the Garden City Athletic Association. Starting from Village Parking Field 9E and ending at Stewart Avenue at the Village Green, the players and their coaches marched into the 2010 softball and baseball seasons with high hopes of many wins.

The Long Island Fury, defending Women’s Premier Soccer League national champions, is very pleased to announce that 17-year-old defender Emily Menges of Garden City is returning to the team for the 2010 season. Emily could see action with both the women’s team and new under-20 squad.
The Recreation Department is running a second session of their very popular PeeWee Sports Sampler for 4- and 5-year-olds. This session will begin the week of April 5. Each week your child will be given an introduction to a different sport, using equipment geared to his/her age level in a non-competitive atmosphere.
The 55-minute classes will be held in St. Paul’s Field House according to the following schedule: Thursdays at 1:45 p.m., beginning April 8.
Classes will run for six weeks at a cost of $48. Please note that your child must be 4 years old by the start of the session in order to attend. To register, visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave.

The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that 10th-grader Olivia Adragna recently took the bronze medal at the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships in Memphis, TN this past February.
The Garden City Recreation Department is once again sponsoring the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 3 at Community Park. This year, three hunts will be held beginning at 10 a.m. sharp, with three age divisions: preschool to kindergarten, grades one and two; and grades three to five.
Special eggs will be stuffed and hidden for all divisions and the lucky children who find the special eggs with the certificate inside can redeem them for a prize. Each hunt will also feature a grand prize (an Easter basket filled with goodies), which will go to the youngster who finds the egg marked “#1 Lucky Egg.” For further information about the Hunt, call the Recreation Dept. at 465-4075
Congratulations to 11-year-old Garden City athlete Stephanie Gerland, who scored as the first female finisher (14 and under age group) in the 13th annual Lazer, Aptheker, Rosella and Yedid Kings Park 15 Kilometer Run, held on the roads of Kings Park on Saturday, March 13. Gerland crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 8 minutes, 38 seconds, finishing as the eighth woman overall, with a performance that was especially impressive in light of the drastic weather conditions that the runners encountered that morning.
