The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be entering a few girls teams in the 2010 Massapequa Soccer Father’s Day Tournament for U8 (second-grade) players who are born between August 1, 2001 and July 31, 2002. This tournament will be a one-day tournament held on Saturday, June 19, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. No games on Sunday. There will be 4 x 28 minute games played. Most of the costs will be subsidized by the G.C. Centennials Soccer Club, so that will cost less than $5 per child. There are a limited number of teams we can field so this will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Congratulations to 69-year-old endurance athlete Michael Ogazon of Garden City, who successfully completed the eighth annual Long Island Greenbelt Trail 2K Kilometer Run on May 8.
Ogazon completed the course in 3 hours, 59 minutes, 55 seconds, a full 35 minutes faster than he completed the 2009 edition of the Run. Overcast skies at the start were followed by some short but torrential showers and high winds before the sun finally made an appearance in the closing stages of the Run.
