Adelphi University dedicated Motamed Field—home to the Panthers men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse teams and the women’s field hockey team—with a ceremony on Saturday, April 9, honoring esteemed alumnus and Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas F. Motamed ’71. The Board of Trustees adopted a resolution dedicating the field in honor of Mr. Motamed due to his unwavering commitment to and support for the University. In attendance were Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Gayle D. Insler, as well as other members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, employees, current students, athletes, and friends.

The 2011 Summer Camp Brochure is now available, listing a wide variety of activities and sport camps for ages 3–16. Registration has begun, by mail only, for all camps. The U.S. Tennis Association/Eastern Section/Long Island Region will recognize four Garden City junior and adult tennis players at its 21st Annual Awards Dinner here this evening. They are: Jacqueline Raynor, Singles Champion-Nassau-Girls, Garden City High School; Zach Morris, Singles Champion-Nassau-Boys, Garden City High School; Alyssa D. Rosello, Girls #2-18s; and Thomas Murphy, Men’s #2 Open Singles.

Pool Applications Have Been Mailed
The 2011 Garden City Pool applications have been mailed. If you did not receive one, you can go to Gardencityrecreation.org and get all the pool information and download the 2011 membership application and the 2011 swim lesson registration form or visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. Don’t delay, get your application in to guarantee your membership for another season of “Fun in the Sun!”

The Community Park Miniature Golf Course is now open.
If you are planning a birthday party, a group outing or just looking to get together with family, friends or coworkers, why not miniature golf at Community Park. We have a new state of the art golf course with twists and turns to excite players of all ages! We offer a beautiful setting with a shaded picnic area, a playground and a snack bar. But most of all, it is a reasonably-priced, full of fun outing that is enjoyed by everyone. So come on over and let the games begin!

The spring session of Yoga with Connie McKnight will begin the week of May 2 according to the following schedule:
Mondays 7:30-8:30 p.m., six classes for $36
Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 a.m., six classes for $36
The spring program is open to adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Each class will meet in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. The class is geared towards the average person. Please make sure to bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothes. There will also be a summer session that will begin in July. Watch for further info on this program in the coming weeks. The children’s session for spring Yoga will begin the week of May 2 and run for six weeks. This class is offered for youth residents of the Village of Garden City, ages 6–12, on the following days:
Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
Fridays at 6:45 p.m.

The Recreation Department will again run the local section of Aquafina’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition. Registration is now taking place at the Recreation Administrative Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. This free competition incorporates baseball skills on a 60-foot field, with the winners competing against other Long Island winners at a later date.
The local competition will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 4 p.m. at Grove Park. In order to compete, the child must be registered for the program by Wednesday, April 27.
The Garden City Recreation Department’s Tennis Center is pleased to announce the start of registration for its youth spring program. Spring tennis classes are offered to Garden City residents ages 4 through 10 years old. All classes will begin the week of Monday, May 2, and run for six weeks. The schedule and fees for this year’s youth classes are as follows (all classes are 55 minutes long):
Mondays:
4 p.m. Pee Wee (beginner lessons for ages 5-6) $80
5 p.m. Novice (advanced lessons for ages 6-7) $130
5 p.m. Junior (beginner lessons for ages 8-10) $130

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:
Session 1 – 6 weeks beginning May 2 Cost: $150
Session 2 – 4 weeks beginning July 5 Cost: $100
Session 3 – 4 weeks beginning Aug. 2 Cost: $100

Our Recreation Department will run a spring season of very popular Zumba classes in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. Classes are taught by a certified Zumba instructor, Felicia Lovaglio, and will run for seven weeks according to the following schedule:
Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m. beginning April 26
Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. beginning April 28
Saturdays at 9 a.m. beginning April 30
