Throughout the next two to three weeks, many of our young people will be leaving for college. Some for the first time; others to conclude course requirements, which will lead to undergraduate and graduate degrees. My colleagues on the Village Board join me in wishing them a safe journey and a most productive year. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our young people and look to them as our ambassadors to the many cities, towns and villages throughout the country, which will be their temporary homes.
Next week will mark the arrival of Adelphi’s Class of 2015 onto the Garden City Campus. It gives me pleasure to welcome the students and to compliment them on choosing Adelphi. The board of trustees and I wish President Scott, his faculty and staff, as well as the Class of 2015 and all students, a most productive year.
The village wants you to consider Garden City your home away from home during the next four years. While it is my hope that you will never require medical assistance during your stay at Adelphi, it is good to know that Garden City is the home to virtually every medical and dental discipline available and they are centered at 520 and 601 Franklin Avenue and on Seventh Street. We also invite you to visit our shopping areas and many fine restaurants on Seventh Street, Franklin Avenue and New Hyde Park Road; bring your friends and family, all are welcome.
Work continues in Phase #3 of Parking Field #12. Due to inclement weather earlier this week, this phase of construction will continue into next week. Please do not park within the construction zone and exercise caution when driving or walking near areas of construction. Please also take notice of any temporary parking restrictions posted by the Police Department as they will be strictly enforced. Additional parking can be found in Parking Field #11 (west side of Franklin Avenue and in Parking Field #9 (south of Eleventh Street). The work in the northern half of Parking Field #12 is complete and this portion of the parking field is fully reopened for use. We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience during this much needed infrastructure improvement.
If you have any questions, please contact the Garden City Public Works Department at (516) 465-4004 (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
Paving work has been completed on Plaza Road, Bedell Avenue, Spruce Street and Prescott Street with striping work to follow soon on all blocks. Work on Main Avenue is currently under way with the contract ending on Fifteenth Street (east of Franklin Avenue). During construction, residents should expect detours and some road closures. Concrete work continues on Boylston Street and Tremont Street. Please be careful when driving or walking near any roadway that is under construction, taking everyone’s safety into consideration. Residents will be notified in advance of any major work. We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during these infrastructure improvements.
The next meeting of the board of trustees will be on Thursday, Sept.15 at 8 p.m. I encourage all residents to attend board of trustees meetings so as to be thoroughly informed of village issues from a firsthand perspective.
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s homepage under the heading of Recreation Department is a link to Upcoming Events within the Recreation Department.
