As previously advised, the village was informed on Tuesday, Nov. 15 that the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will be working in the vicinity of Washington Avenue and Transverse Road for approximately six (6) to nine (9) weeks to repair a major underground electrical cable that was determined to be in need of emergency replacement.
This work has necessitated the closure of Washington Avenue between Eleventh Street and Supreme Court Drive. Night security personnel from LIPA are at the site from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Residents who have driveways on Washington Avenue can park on the side streets. Once the subsurface facilities are exposed, crews will begin making the necessary repairs and the initial noise of the project will abate. In order to mitigate the use of generators there will be three temporary solar-powered dusk-to-dawn lights. These lights will be directed away from all homes. Additionally, there will be no loss of power to homes as a result of the project.
The electoral process is at the core of our democratic way of government in the United States of America. From Presidential elections all the way down to local government contests, the will of the people is central to our way of life. Accordingly, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in the Nov. 8 elections. I am honored to have been re-elected to another term as Hempstead Town Supervisor and I am eager to embark upon new challenges and maintain key priorities over the next two years. Thank you!
May all of our residents and their families enjoy a happy and safe Thanksgiving Holiday and weekend.
Please remember your neighbors and seniors who may be alone and take a few minutes from your busy schedule to look in on them and to let them know that they are remembered.
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The holidays are around the corner, and at the Garden City Hotel, we are busily preparing for a season of joyful celebrations. Against this backdrop, we are ringing in a new tradition while leaving behind another. Last November marked our final Tree Lighting Ceremony. This annual evening celebration, held the Monday after Thanksgiving, over many years, brought together families, friends, neighbors, business associates and community leaders. We know how much it has meant to the community. We appreciate the many calls and emails sharing memorable tree lighting ceremonies gone by and to just say thank you. We are touched by your immense gratitude.
Special thanks to the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion of Garden City for conducting the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony on November 11. We appreciate all that they do to honor and remember those men and women who have served in our armed forces in support of our country.
Regrettably, all too often our young people are criticized for the negative behavior of a relative few. I am pleased to let you know that this Halloween was virtually free of vandalism demonstrating that our young people do care about their Village. On behalf of the parents, I thank residents for providing delicious but safe “treats” for the children. A good day was had by all!
The five undersigned Trustees have determined it necessary to provide this letter to our residents in light of current discussions regarding the former St Paul’s School building.
We realize that St. Paul’s is an ongoing issue for many village residents, and that some accuse us of having “no vision” if we do not agree with the Committee to Save St. Paul’s (CSSP) and the Historical Society. To the contrary, we certainly do have a vision.
The Village of Garden City is a participant in the Nassau County Village Officials Association (NCVOA) natural gas buying group program. The NCVOA has entered into an agreement with East Coast Power and Gas and will be offering a discount program to village residents and commercial establishments. As an East Coast Power and Gas customer, your natural gas rate each is guaranteed to be 8 percent lower and businesses are guaranteed to save 8.625 percent on the sales tax as well as receiving an 8 percent discount. There is no long-term commitment and you can opt out of the program at any time. Please note that if you sign on to this program, your natural gas bill, gas delivery and emergency services will continue to be provided by NationalGrid.
