•Blood Pressure Screening conducted by volunteer nurses from the Kappa Eta Chapter of the Chi Eta Phi sorority on the first Wednesday of every month from noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. No appointments necessary. The testing will be held on the main floor.

•The Adult Learning Center offers computer, audio and video programs to assist with preparation for GED classes. The programs are available for use (by appointment). Information about local GED test sites and GED applications are available at the center and the Adult Reference Desk.

•Halloween Trick O' Treat Bag for children in grades K through 6 on Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. Decorate a canvas bag for Halloween and collect trick 'o treating candy in it. Register in the Children's Room. Materials fee 50 cents.

•AARP Defensive Driving Course will be offered over two days four hour sessions in the Community Room. Part 1 Nov. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m.; Part 2 Nov. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. Participants must attend all eight hours. Successful completion of this class will remove up to four points from driving record, entitle you to an insurance discount and make you a better driver. There is a fee of $10 payable by check or money order payable to AARP at time of required in-person registration. Class size is limited. Bring lunch or a snack. Hempstead Village resident registration begins Oct. 31; nonresidents may register beginning Nov. 7 if space is available.

The Nassau North Shore Christian Women's Club invites all women to its "Harvest Country Fair" Luncheon on Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the George Washington Manor Restaurant. Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn.
