On Wednesday, Jan. 15, Harlem Wizard, James “Roadrunner” Tyndal, visited Garden City primary and elementary schools to promote the upcoming Feb. 1 rematch between the Harlem Wizards and the Garden City teachers. The game, sponsored by the Garden City Student Aid and Scholarship Fund, tips off at 1 p.m. at Garden City High School. Ticket order forms have been distributed through the schools and tickets are also available on-line at www.harlemwizards.com/schedules Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door (if available on game day).

On Tuesday, March 18, Stewart Manor will be holding village elections from noon to 9 p.m. at Village Hall on 120 Covert Ave. in Stewart Manor. Current trustees Orlando Sa and Mary Carole Schafenberg, who filled in the seats of former trustee James Lynch and current mayor Jerry Tangredi respectively, are running for their first full terms. Stewart Manor resident Bill Grogran is also running for trustee. The following was submitted by Grogan. After contacting Sa and Biehayn, there was no response as of press time.

Pitching wins championships, and Garden City baseball Head Coach Rich Smith is confident that his team has enough of it to make a run in 2014. He is not deterred by losing 11 seniors, many of which contributed to the team’s 15-7 season. Smith, in his 42nd year with the program, has seen almost everything on the baseball field, but noted that this team is unique in one way.
“On paper we have three lefties in the starting rotation,” said Smith. “And that’s something I’ve never had here,” he added. The trio of southpaws could prove to be nightmarish on the conference, even after its new alignment.

The start of spring roller hockey is just around the corner. Whether you played in the past or looking to get involved, there is no better time to sign up and experience all the fun. All programs take place at the roller rink located at Community Park.
