Brendan Engelke, a senior at Garden City High School, was recently honored as a News 12/Citibank Scholar Athlete. Brendan excels as a two-season athlete, playing on both the boys varsity football and lacrosse teams, as well as in his academic studies where he carries an unweighted G.P.A. of 97. Citibank co-sponsors the Scholar Athlete program and bank representative Jennifer Scognamiglio was on hand to present the Scholar Athlete plaque to high school principal Nanine Cuttitta during the March 5 videotaping of Brendan's News 12 feature.

"This was an incredible honor," Engelke said. "I have worked very hard in school and on the lacrosse field to give myself better opportunities for college. My parents and my whole family are just so proud. I plan on attending University of Pennsylvania in the fall."
