Ella E. Steitz, of Jericho, formerly a longtime resident of Garden City, died at the age of 91 on Feb. 14, 2009. While residing in Garden City, she became widely known for her entertaining flower arranging demonstrations and professional judging. She was a long-standing member of the Garden City Flower Club and attained recognition as a Master Flower Show judge. She was a respected member of the Garden City Beautification Committee for many years sharing her love of flowers with the entire community. Also being a fine artist, she was a long-standing member of the Art League of Nassau County, participating in many shows along with having her own one-woman art show at the Garden City Public Library. Her love of art extended to the Rockville Centre Recreation Department where she taught art classes for over 10 years.
Predeceased by her husband Alfred C. Steitz, she is survived by her loving daughter Judy (and Stanley) Weis of Jericho; son Lanning (and Colleen) Steitz of Bearsville, NY; two granddaughters, Jennifer (and Steven) Hegermann, and Nancy Steitz.
The family received visitors at the Fairchild Funeral Home, Garden City, on Feb. 17 and 18 with services on the latter. Burial was held Feb. 19 at the Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens.
