The Recreation Department will present a showing of Plaza Theatrical Productions, Inc. rendition of Sleeping Beauty Sunday, March 8 at St. Paul's Cluett Hall. This family show will take place at 1 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Plaza Theatrical Productions is well known for their children's series of plays. Admission will be $4 per person and pre-registration is a must. To register for admission, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 by Thursday, March 5.

Our Preschool Arts and Crafts classes are 45 minutes in length. Two of the classes have been set to "piggy back" with some of our other preschool programs so that children can register for both programs. Each week the children will make a fun project to take home. The cost of the six-week program is $30. This program is open to children living in the Inc. Village of Garden City who are three-and-a-half years or older. Classes will be offered:

Monday at 12:15 p.m. (begins March 2)

Tuesday at noon (begins March 3)

Thursday at 12:15 p.m. (begins March 5)

The second session of our very poplar Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler is almost filled. The program, which will run for one hour and will be an instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere. A different sport will be offered each week. The cost of this six-week program is $48.

The Recreation Department is again offering our very popular hockey program this spring. All programs take place at the Garden City Community Park Hockey Rinks.

For: Ages 5-7

Session 1: 3 to 4 p.m. Session 2: 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

This eight-week program will begin Sunday March 22. This program has been designed to introduce the exciting game of roller hockey. No experience is required in hockey or rollerskating as this is a Beginners Program. Program includes a jersey and our end-of-the-season awards party. The cost of this program will be $60.

Age Groupings: Mites (Ages 6-8), Junior (Ages 9 and 10), Senior (Ages 11-14)

When: Friday (raindates on Mondays) according to the following schedule:

Mites Division: 5:45 p.m.

Junior Division: 4 p.m.

Senior Division: 7:30 p.m.

Season will begin Friday, March 20, and run through mid-May. Season includes six weeks of regular season play, playoffs, a jersey and our end-of-the-season awards party. The cost of this program is $60.

For: Ages 30 and over

When: Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

Session will begin Sunday, March 22, and run through mid-May. All games are strictly pickup and just for fun. The cost of the program is $50.

Space is very limited for each program, therefore please register early. Since our league program is made up of teams, please understand that each participant is making a commitment to the programs and that regular attendance is expected.

Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10-week program will be $105 (supplies are bought on your own) a supply list will be handed out at the first class).

This 10-week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice. Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes.

The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a Middle School Recreation Night for sixth graders on the following remaining date at St. Paul's Field House:

Friday, Feb. 27

These parties will be chaperoned by the Recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Note-Once the children are in our facility for either of these programs, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an Open Gym program for basketball and volleyball for middle and high school-age students. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House.

The Winter Open Gym Program will provide the students an opportunity to participate in after school activities in a supervised setting.

This program began Dec. 3 and will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Please note: This is a time set aside for middle and high school students to enjoy our facility while having fun with their friends. No organized practices may take place at this time. Since the Recreation Department will provide supervision, no adults will be allowed in this field house at this time. For further information call 465-4075.

Mens Over 40 Basketball 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Mens Over 40 Basketball 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Thursdays Adult Volleyball 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Adult Soccer 8:30 to 10 p.m.

These programs are open to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City who have graduated from high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly "pickup." A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
