Looking for a fun way to get back into shape? The Recreation Department is offering both Ballet and Aerobic/Stretch/Resistance training for adults to help jumpstart your metabolism and workout while having fun.
Felicia Lovaglio, our dance director and adjunct faculty member of Adelphi, leads our Basic Ballet class you remember from your childhood to stretch and tone your body. This class is held on Tuesday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and will run for six weeks (it began Feb. 10) at a cost of $48.
Felicia also runs an aerobic/stretch/resistance training class on Thursday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. This class combines 20 minutes of aerobic and stretching through dance music with 40 minutes of resistance tube training, which helps build bone mass while toning and strengthening various parts of your body. This class will begin Thursday, Feb. 12 and run for six weeks at a cost of $48.

Registration began Monday, Feb. 9th for the second session of our very popular preschool programs. We have added additional classes in hopes of accommodating all!
Our Preschool Arts and Crafts classes are 45 minutes in length. Two of the classes have been set to "piggy back" with some of our other preschool programs so that children can register for both programs. Each week the children will make a fun project to take home. The cost of the six-week program is $30. This program is open to children living in the Inc. Village of Garden City who are three-and-a-half years or older. Classes will be offered:

Tuesday at noon begins Feb. 24
Thursday at 12:15 p.m. begins Feb. 26
The second session of our very poplar Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler program for children ages 4 and 5 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Participants must be 4 years old by the start of the session in order to participate. This six-week program has been designed to provide an opportunity to try a wide variety of sports with basic instruction.
It will be held in the St Paul's Field House according to the following schedule:
Tuesday (begins Feb. 24) 12:45 or 1:45 p.m.
Wednesday (begins Feb. 25) 12:30 or 1:30 p.m.
Thursday (begins Feb. 26) 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.
This program will run for one hour and will be an instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere. A different sport will be offered each week. The cost of this six-week program is $48.

During the holiday recess, the Garden City Recreation Department will offer a gym program for children in the Saint Paul's Field House from Tuesday, Feb. 17 to Friday, Feb. 20. This program is open to youngsters of the Inc. Village of Garden City only.
The schedule for these programs will be as follows:
Kindergarten and 1st grade - 9 to 10:30 a.m.
2nd and 3rd grades - 10:30 a.m. to Noon
4th, 5th, and 6th grades - Noon to 2 p.m.

The Recreation Department is again offering our very popular hockey program this spring. All programs take place at the Garden City Community Park Hockey Rinks.
Learn & Play Program
For: Ages 5-7
Session 1: 3 to 4 p.m. Session 2: 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.
This eight-week program will begin Sunday March 22. This program has been designed to introduce the exciting game of Roller Hockey. No experience is required in hockey or rollerskating as this is a Beginners Program. Program includes a jersey and our end-of-the-season awards party. The cost of this program will be $60.
Age Groupings: Mites (Ages 6-8), Junior (Ages 9 and 10), Senior (Ages 11-14)
When: Friday (raindates on Mondays) according to the following schedule:
Mites Division: 5:45 p.m.
Junior Division: 4 p.m.
Senior Division: 7:30 p.m.
Season will begin Friday, March 20, and run through mid-May. Season includes six weeks of regular season play, playoffs, a jersey and our end-of-the-season awards party. The cost of this program is $60.
For: Ages 30 & over
When: Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
Session will begin Sunday, March 22, and run through Mid-May. All games are strictly pickup and just for fun. The cost of the program is $50.
Space is very limited for each program, therefore please register early. Since our league program is made up of teams, please understand that each participant is making a commitment to the programs and that regular attendance is expected.

On Wednesday, Feb. 18, The Recreation Department will show the animated movie, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa in Cluett Hall. Show time will be 1 p.m.
This movie, rated PG and running 89 minutes, is the sequel that brings back lovable New York Zoo animals Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they travel Africa in this hilarious adventure. Admission to this movie is free. Snacks and drinks will be sold at a nominal charge.
The Recreation Department will give a showing of the animated movie Kung Foo Panda in St. Paul's Cluett Hall this Sunday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. Admission to this 98 minute, "PG" movie is free. Snacks and drinks will be sold for a nominal charge. Come and join us!
Due to the extraordinary cold we are experiencing in our area, Hubbell's Pond, located on the grounds of the Garden City Men's Club, has frozen. Due to the generosity of the Club, the Recreation Department is offering skating on the pond under the following conditions:
• Conditions change by the day. The pond will be evaluated daily for safety and thickness. The Recreation Department will decide by 1 p.m. each day as to whether conditions will allow skating. Anyone interested may call our office at 465-4075 between 2 and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday or St Paul's at 742-4905 on the weekends for daily updates.
• No one is allowed to park in the Club's parking lot. Participants can park at Garden City Middle School or St. Paul's and walk across to the gate open on Stewart Avenue.
• Skating, if conditions are favorable, is only allowed during the following hours:
Monday through Friday 2 to 8 p.m.
Saturday 10 to 8 p.m.
Sunday 10 to 6 p.m.
• Although hockey will be allowed, it will only be played in designated areas. If these areas are filled, or if the attendants on duty feel that the ice is too crowded, hockey will be suspended.
Remember - a red sign on the skating shack signifies skating for the day!
Due to popular demand, the Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning Feb. 20. Our classes will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10-week program will be $105 (supplies are bought on your own) a supply list will be handed out at the first class).
This 10-week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice. Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at his/her own pace and level of expertise.
Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes.

On Sunday afternoons the St. Paul's Field House is open for "Family Fun" for village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym will be available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday until March.
This time is designated for our residents to use on a family or individual basis. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop-off program. We ask that the elementary-aged children be accompanied by an adult. For the safety of our users, no lacrosse or baseball will be allowed.
The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a Middle School Recreation Night for sixth graders on the following remaining date at St. Paul's Field House:
Friday, Feb. 27
These parties will be chaperoned by the Recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Note-Once the children are in our facility for either of these programs, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.
Our fall session of yoga began the week of Jan. 12. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an Open Gym program for basketball and volleyball for middle and high school-age students. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House.
The Winter Open Gym Program will provide the students an opportunity to participate in after school activities in a supervised setting.
This program began Dec. 3 and will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Please note: This is a time set aside for middle and high school students to enjoy our facility while having fun with their friends. No organized practices may take place at this time. Since the Recreation Department will provide supervision, no adults will be allowed in this field house at this time. For further information call 465-4075.
