This is just a reminder that our after school programs for elementary and secondary school children are continuing according to the following schedules:
Monday Grades 3-5 boys from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Tuesday Grades K-2 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Wednesday Middle and High School open gym from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Thursday Middle and High School open gym from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Friday Grades 3-5 girls from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Our programs for the elementary aged children consist of sports and games run and supervised by our recreation staff. These free programs will run until the first week in March with the exception of the K-2 program, which will end on Feb. 10.
On Sunday afternoons the St. Paul's Field House is open for "Family Fun" for village families. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym will be available for use from noon to 3:30 p.m. each Sunday until March.
This time is designated for our residents to use on a family or individual basis. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff to monitor activity, this is not a drop off program. We ask that the elementary aged children be accompanied by an adult. For the safety of our users, no lacrosse or baseball will be allowed.
Bill White, magician extraordinaire, and his dog, Magic, will be visiting Cluett Hall Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. Bill White and Magic perform amazing tricks, so amazing that they have been featured on "Animal Planet!"
This performance is free but reservations are necessary. To reserve a seat, please call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
The Recreation Department is running our Intramural Match Play Program. Our Match Play Program is a Junior League Intra-club Program for children ages 9-18. This program offers competitive match play formatted to fit each child's playing level. All matches are played in the Community Park Tennis Facility.
The league is organized by age and playing ability. Interested children must be able to serve for the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score unassisted and have an understanding of the rules of tennis.
This program will be minimally supervised during match play. Teaching staff will set up the matches, which will be held on Sundays between 2 and 4 p.m. beginning Sunday, Jan. 25. There will be no make-ups for this league. All participants should show up the first Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Recreation Department will hold its very popular Junior Platform Tennis Program again at Garden City Community Park for children in grades 6-12 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This program will run on Fridays beginning Jan. 30 according to the following schedule:
Grades 6-8, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Grades 9-12, 7:30 - 9 p.m.
This program is under the direction of Sue Tarzian. The cost of the eight-week session will be $144. Space is limited. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.
For those families who visited Santa at the Recreation Dept but did not receive their photos, your photos are ready and waiting for you! Come to the Recreation Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to pick them up.
The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a "Rec Night" for seventh and eighth graders on Friday, Feb. 6 in St. Paul's Field House. These parties will be chaperoned by the recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games. Note: Once the children are in the field house, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come down to the field house to pick up your child.
The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a Middle School Recreation Night for sixth graders on the following dates at St. Paul's Field House:

Come join the Recreation Department as we hold a Sunday movie matinee in Cluett Hall Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. The movie showing will be the animated blockbuster, Ratatouille, a Disney/Pixar production. Rated G, this film will run 110 minutes. Admission is free and snacks will be available for a nominal charge. Recreation staff will be on hand to supervise.
Our fall session of yoga began the week of Jan. 12. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The Recreation Department began its first session of Preschool Arts and Crafts the week of Jan. 5. This six-week program is held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is open to children ages three and a half to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.
Children interested in this program may register for either Monday at 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday at noon. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30.
The child registering must be three and a half years old by January in order to register for a session. To register, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.
The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an Open Gym program for basketball and volleyball for middle and high school-age students. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House.
The Winter Open Gym Program will provide the students an opportunity to participate in after school activities in a supervised setting.
This program began Dec. 3 and will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Please note: This is a time set aside for middle and high school students to enjoy our facility while having fun with their friends. No organized practices may take place at this time. Since the Recreation Department will provide supervision, no adults will be allowed in this field house at this time. For further information call 465-4075.
Our Saturday Men's Basketball Program began again in the Middle School South gym Saturday, Jan. 3. The gym is open to residents ages 18 and older for pickup basketball games. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and play continues until 11:30 a.m. This program will continue through Saturday, Feb. 14.
