The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a "Rec. Night" for seventh and eighth graders on the following dates in St. Paul's Field House:

Friday, Jan. 9

Friday, Feb. 6

These parties will be chaperoned by the recreation staff and will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. A DJ will provide music and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge. The gym will be open for basketball, volleyball, dancing and other games.

Note-Once the children are in the Field House, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come down to the field house to pick up your child.

The Garden City Recreation Department is sponsoring a Middle School Recreation Night for sixth graders on the following dates at St. Paul's Field House:

Friday, Jan. 23

Friday, Feb. 27

Our fall session of yoga begins the week of Jan. 12. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays All level Yoga 7:30 p.m. 15 Classes for $75

Wednesdays All level Yoga 10:30 a.m. 16 Classes for $80

Thursdays All level Yoga 11:30 a.m. 16 Classes for $80

The Garden City Recreation Department is proud to announce it will offer a Pee-Wee All Sports Sampler program this winter for children ages 4 and 5 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This six-week program began the week of Jan. 5. The program has been designed to provide an opportunity to try a wide variety of sports with basic instruction. It will be held in the St. Paul's Field House according to the following schedule:

Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Thursday at 1 p.m.

This program will run for one hour and will be instructional, incorporating new skills and free play in a non-competitive atmosphere. A different sport will be offered each week. The price for this six-week program will be $48. To register, please visit the Recreation Offices at 108 Rockaway Avenue. Please note - the child must be 4 by the start of the program in order to participate.

The Recreation Department will begin its first session of Preschool Arts and Crafts the week of Jan. 5. This six-week program is held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is open to children ages three and half to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

Children interested in this program may register for either Monday at 12:15 p.m. or Tuesday at noon. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30.

The child registering must be three and half years old by January in order to register for a session. To register, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter it will sponsor an Open Gym program for basketball and volleyball for middle and high school-age students. This program will be conducted weekday afternoons after school in the St. Paul's Field House.

The Winter Open Gym Program will provide the students an opportunity to participate in after school activities in a supervised setting.

This program began Dec. 3 and will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Please note: This is a time set aside for middle and high school students to enjoy our facility while having fun with their friends. No organized practices may take place at this time. Since the Recreation Department will provide supervision, no adults will be allowed in this field house at this time. For further information call 465-4075.

Our Saturday Men's Basketball Program began again in the Middle School South gym Saturday, Jan. 3. The gym is open to residents ages 18 and older for pickup basketball games. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and play continues until 11:30 a.m. This program will continue through Saturday, Feb. 14.

The Recreation Department's second session of children's tennis began the week of Jan. 5. The following classes still have openings for this session:

PeeWee (55 minutes)- ages 5 and 6 with no experience

Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday 3:30 or 4:30 p.m.

Novice (55 minutes) - ages 6 and 7 with previous experience

Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday at 3:30 or 5:30 p.m.

Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Junior (55 minutes) - ages 8 to 11 with little or no experience

Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Sunday at 11 a.m.

Junior Advanced (1 hour 25 minutes) - ages 8 to 11 with experience

Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday at 3:30 or 5 p.m.

Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Senior (55 minutes) - ages 12-18 with little or no experience

Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Sunday at noon

Senior Advanced (1 hour 25 minutes) ages 12-18 with previous experience

Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday at 11 a.m.

Adult Soccer 8:30 to 10 p.m.

These programs are open to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City who have graduated from high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly "pickup." A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
