Three times a charm couldn't be more true for this awesome Garden City High School sister pair. After a second and third place finish in the previous two years, Kelsey and Jacqueline Raynor ended their high school doubles career with a New York State title.
The tournament took place Nov. 8-11 at the Eastside Racquet Club in Syracuse. The sisters were the top ranked team in the tournament and started with a first round bye. It was all bad news for their competitors after that with 6-1, 6-2 wins in the first two pairs competitions. The fourth round found the sisters once again up against their conference rivals from Bellmore JFK. The girls proved too strong for the Bellmore team beating them 6-0, 6-2. That win put the Raynors in the finals against a team from Rockland County. After cruising through the first set 6-0, the sisters finished them off in a close set 7-5, to become state champs.
Congratulations ladies and good luck to senior Kelsey Raynor. Kelsey will be attending Marist College on a tennis scholarship. Jacqueline, a sophomore, will be returning next year to captain the Garden City tennis team.
