On a personal note, congratulations and best wishes to Adelphi President Bob Scott and the lovely Carole Artigiani who were married on August 24, 2008 in a private ceremony.

I have been contacted by a student at the Garden City High School, Patricia McCormick (Class of 2009), who has advised me that she is the team captain and is participating in the "American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer(r) Walk. The "Making Strides Walk" will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Jones Beach. McCormick is asking for your support by signing up to walk or to join in the walk, bring the whole family. She is also collecting Yoplait Yogurt lids. They can be sent to her at 37 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, New York, 11530 (her e-mail address is Mome225@aol.com). The collection is being held until December.

The Garden City Hotel is lending its support by having "pink lights on the hotel for the month of October" and also by allowing Patricia to sell lollipops in the hotel's gift shop. The proceeds will go to the Adelphi Breast Cancer hotline. So, please visit the hotel and support this worthy cause. Oct. 27 is National Wear Pink Day, so, wear your pink and show your support.

Residents are reminded that it is their responsibility to maintain the shrubs and trees on their property to assure that branches do not overhang and obstruct the Incorporated Village by doing your part to keep Garden City a pedestrian friendly community. It is wonderful to see so many Garden City residents as well as visitors to our village enjoying alfresco dining on New Hyde Park Road, Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street. This year there are over 25 businesses that have permits. There is no doubt that alfresco dining is an overwhelming success. I encourage residents to come early and combine shopping with dining outside at their favorite place. The outdoor dining will continue through the month of November. The next regularly scheduled board of trustees' meeting for the month of October is Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. Correspondence addressed to the mayor and board had to be received by Tuesday morning, Oct. 7 for the Oct. 16 meeting to be included with the Board's Communications for this meeting. I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village's website for information regarding the village's operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. Also please be aware that I have a village email address and would be delighted to hear from village residents about their concerns - it is as follows: MayorPBee@gardencityny.net.
