Ali Galgano, a Garden City resident and senior at Sacred Heart Academy, finished in first place in the New York State Golf Championship held in Buffalo during the weekend of June 1. Ali qualified for the championship after winning the NSCHSGAA Golf Individual Stroke Play Championship at Harbor Links at Port Washington on May 15. Ali shot a 79 on the par 72 course, which is the best score ever by a Nassau/Suffolk golfer in the league and was eight strokes better than her closest competitor (and included a near hole-in-one!). Ali finished the season undefeated in match play and was the unanimous coaches' choice for the Player of the Year Award. As a measure of the respect that Ali has earned from her peers during the season, all of the other golfers individually congratulated Ali on her championship effort.
As captain, Ali led Sacred Heart Academy's golf team to a second place league finish. Ali contributed to the team's success by finishing the season undefeated in match play. In her last match to end the regular season, Ali shot an even par 31 on the 9-hole course. This was the third consecutive year that Ali posted an even par round. Ali's individual high school record was 24-2-2. Ali will be attending Villanova University (in the Honors Program) this fall where she will continue to play club golf.
