Congratulations to Trustees John L. Mauk, John J. Watras, Nicholas P. Episcopia and Donald T. Brudie on their election. It is gratifying to note that the affairs of our village will remain in such capable hands. I look forward to continue working with the board of trustees, and I believe we can achieve a great deal over the next several years.
My office has been advised by Maureen O'Connell, Nassau County clerk, that there has been a "mass mailing" sent to local homeowners claiming that "The U.S. Government Federal Citizen Information Center recommends that you obtain a certified copy of your deed NOW." Please be advised that this solicitation is by private companies offering to purchase a certified copy of their deed for up to $90, which is 1700 percent more than the County Clerk's Office fee for the same service. It is not necessary to retain a deed service to obtain a copy of your deed. The County Clerk's Office staff can assist all residents in obtaining a copy of their deed at any time. If you wish to obtain a copy of your deed, it can be done by requesting it by mail or coming in person to Office of the County Clerk, 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, New York 11501, office hours are 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Whether your request is in person or by mail, you will need: Your property section, block and lot numbers (located on your tax bill), the fee for certified copies is $5 in person or $10 by mail (includes $5 search fee).
The next board of trustees meeting will be the annual organizational meeting April 7. The meeting will be held in the Board Room at Village Hall.
I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village's website for information regarding the village's operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. Also please be aware that I have a village email address and would be delighted to hear from village residents about their concerns - it is as follows: MayorPBee@gardencityny.net.
