The recreation department's annual Easter egg hunt will take place Saturday, March 22, at Garden City Community Park. This event is open to any resident of the village in grades pre-k through 5.
The egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m. sharp! Three separate hunts will be held for the following age groups - pre-k and kindergarten, first and second, and third through fifth. The children will be searching for all kinds of treats as well as the special "number eggs," which win special prizes.
Enter Community Park through the hockey gate located on the south side of the park near the nursery school. Parents are asked to observe age groupings in order to give all children a fair chance for treats. Pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will be available so bring your cameras.
The recreation department has secured a limited number of tickets to the New York Islanders last home game on April 3 versus the New York Rangers. Come see Rick DiPietro and the rest of the New York Islanders take on the division rivals with this special offer. The Garden City Recreation Department will be selling tickets for $60 (End Mezzanine seats) on a first come first serve basis.
To purchase tickets, visit the new recreation office located at the cottages at St. Paul's at 108 Rockaway Avenue and fill out the order form for tickets.
Payment must be in the form of cash or check. Tickets will be mailed at a later date. Please make checks out to the New York Islanders. The deadline to take advantage of this offer is Monday, March 24.
The recreation department is sponsoring a chess club for children in Grades 3-6. This free program runs Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. in the Garden City Library's small meeting room. The program began Jan. 12 and runs through March. Players at all levels of experience are invited to attend. Call 465-4075.
The recreation department's adult swim program has begun at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of Garden City age 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one-hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the recreation office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited.

These programs are open to residents of the Village of Garden City who have graduated from high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly pickup. A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075.
The recreation department's spring softball league for men is beginning registration. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements: Teams comprised of employees of businesses located in the village; teams comprised of current residents of the village; and/or teams comprised of employees of the village.
The fee for this league is $500, which covers umpire fees, balls and trophies. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package. This includes a signed consent form, a completed roster, a copy of each player's current driver's license and a check to cover the league fee.
Roster packages are available for pick up in the recreation office of village hall. The deadline for submitting completed applications is Thursday, March 27.
