Assemblyman Tom McKevitt announced that four libraries that serve constituents in his district will receive $150,130 in funding for construction improvements. The grant funds are from a special allocation of $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided by the New York State Legislature in the 2007-2008 State Budget.

"Libraries play an important role in bettering our communities, providing so many tools that help educate all," McKevitt said. "This grant is a huge boost to these libraries as now more residents will be able to benefit from new improvements that will make the experience at these libraries even better."

Local grant recipients include:

The East Meadow Public Library will receive $80,963 for the reconstruction of part of existing library to create a multipurpose, 1,500 square foot Young Adult Room;

Shelter Rock Public Library will receive $39,517 to make three existing bathrooms ADA compliant;

Garden City Public Library will receive $11,724 for the purchase of 26 microcomputers for new computer lab; and

East Williston Public Library will receive $17,926 for the installation of 12 new windows and central air conditioning.
