In their ongoing mission to stop the addition of a third track along the most densely populated Long Island Rail Road line, mayors from the Villages of Garden City, Bellerose, Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Mineola and Westbury have launched a petition drive calling upon Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy to join in the fight to protect the property and preserve the quality of life of her constituents in the Fourth Congressional District.
The mayors unanimously agree; "We need to tell her where we stand i.e.; united in opposition to the third track." They continued, adding, "After all, the MTA/LIRR is seeking federal funding of almost $1 billion to construct this unwanted, unnecessary and destructive mega-project. Congresswoman McCarthy is a key figure in this fight. Without her support of the project, no funding will be obtained."
Mayors Donna Sherrer (Bellerose), Phil Guarnieri (Floral Park), Dan Petruccio (New Hyde Park), Peter Bee (Garden City), Jack Martins (Mineola) and Ernest Strada (Westbury) are asking their village residents and community members in the entire Fourth Congressional District to sign petitions and return them to their respective village halls by Nov. 30, where they will be consolidated and formally presented to Congresswoman McCarthy.
Petitions will be available in the respective village halls or mailed to residents.
