The Village of Garden City, in cooperation with Winthrop-University Hospital, the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizens Affairs, Nassau University Medical Center and Molloy College, will conduct a flu immunization program for senior residents Tuesday, Nov. 20. This is a free, no out-of-pocket expense program.
This program will be held in the recreation center on Golf Club Lane from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no cost to participate; however, the recreation departments asks that residents bring any insurance or Medicare information and your Social Security number with you as you need to provide that information on the forms.
Pre-registration is necessary and will begin by phone Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 9 a.m. Residents of the village, age 60 or older, are invited to participate. Anyone interested must call the recreation office at 465-4075 to make an appointment.
The recreation department began its first session of preschool arts and crafts. The six-week program is held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is open to children ages three-and-a-half to 5 years old who live in Garden City. Children interested in this program may register for either Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. or Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30. The child registering must have turned three-and-a-half by Oct. 16 in order to register for a session. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department's aerobic classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Experienced aerobic instructors teach the classes and try to tailor their program to the level of the participants. Classes are offered at Cluett Hall in St. Paul's according to the following schedule:
Monday at 8 a.m.
Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Thursday at 8 a.m.
Thursday at 7 p.m.
Sunday at 9 a.m.
Classes are approximately one hour and 15 minutes. There is no pre-registration for these classes. It costs $4 per class if you "pay as you go" or you can buy a 20-class pass for $60. Community Park's miniature golf course is now closed for the season. We thank all residents who made our newest project a success.
The fall session of adult dance classes, taught by Felicia Lovaglio, began the week of Oct. 1. This program is open to adults who live in Garden City. The following classes are offered:
Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. Stretch and Tone
Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Jazz
Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Ballet
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Stretch and Tone

The recreation department's adult programs in the field house began Oct. 9 according to the following schedule:

These programs are open to residents of the Village of Garden City who have graduated from high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly pickup. A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075.
The recreation department's adult swim program began Monday, Oct. 15, at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of Garden City age 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one-hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the recreation office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited.
