The recreation department began its first session of preschool arts and crafts this week. The six-week program is held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and is open to children ages three-and-a-half to 5 years old who live in Garden City. Children interested in this program may register for either Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. or Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The cost of each 45-minute, six-week session is $30. The child registering must have turned three-and-a-half by Oct. 16 in order to register for a session. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall.
The recreation department's aerobic classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Experienced aerobic instructors teach the classes and try to tailor their program to the level of the participants. Classes are offered at Cluett Hall in St. Paul's according to the following schedule:
Monday at 8 a.m.
Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Thursday at 8 a.m.
Thursday at 7 p.m.
Sunday at 9 a.m.
Classes are approximately one hour and 15 minutes. There is no pre-registration for these classes. It costs $4 per class if you "pay as you go" or you can buy a 20-class pass for $60. Community Park's miniature golf course closed for the season Oct. 14. We thank everyone who has played during our opening season. You helped to make the course a great success.
The fall session of adult dance classes, taught by Felicia Lovaglio, began the week of Oct. 1. This program is open to adults who live in Garden City. The following classes are offered:
Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. Stretch and Tone
Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Jazz
Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Ballet
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Stretch and Tone

The recreation department's adult programs in the field house began Oct. 9 according to the following schedule:
Mondays Men's open basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's over 40 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Tuesdays Men's over 30 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesdays Men's open basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Men's over 40 basketball 7:30-10 p.m.
Thursdays Adult volleyball 7:30-10 p.m.
Adult soccer 8:30-10 p.m.
These programs are open to residents of the Village of Garden City who have graduated high school. All programs listed are free of charge and strictly pickup. A picture ID is required to sign in to any program. For further information, contact the recreation office at 465-4075.
The recreation department's round robin tennis program is a junior league intraclub program for children ages 9-18. This program offers competitive match play formatted to fit each child's playing level.
The league is organized by age and playing ability. Interested children must be able to serve for the baseline, sustain a slow-paced rally, keep score unassisted and have an understanding of the rules of tennis.
This program will be minimally supervised during match play. The matches will be set up by teaching staff. All matches will be held on Sundays between 2 and 4 p.m. The league begins Sunday, Oct. 21. If you choose to participate on this league, the cost of the nine-week program is $160.
The recreation department's adult swim program began Monday, Oct. 15, at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of Garden City age 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one-hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the recreation office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited.
