The first session of Arlene Urban's pastel art class began Friday, Sept. 21. This program is open to adults who are residents of the village. The class meets for 10 weeks from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Cluett Hall. The cost of the program is $105. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall. The recreation department offers adults tennis lessons in 10-week sessions. The lessons are open to all adults who reside in Garden City and are offered at various times during the day and on the weekends.

If interested in lessons for the upcoming season, which begins the week of Oct. 1, visit the recreation office in village hall to fill out an interest form. Classes will be put together according to ability and day desired on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be contacted by tennis pro Carrie Strum to confirm your class. The cost of this 10-week, one-hour program is $199. Payment must accompany this interest form. Please make checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City."

Adult Ultimate Workout - This one-and-one-half hour workout is for experienced tennis players who want to hone their skills. It is held on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This program will be offered in 10-week sessions with a start date of Oct. 13. The cost of the session is $200.

The fall session of yoga began this week. Connie McKnight, certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each 12-week course costs $60 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes. The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays, all level yoga, 7:30 p.m.

Thursdays, YogaDoesit 1, 11:30 a.m.

The recreation department's dance conservatory program is pleased to announce the start of registration for its upcoming 2007-08 season. Director Felicia Lovaglio, along with Mary Searson and the rest of her staff, are excited to start off another fantastic year. The Dance Conservatory offers classes to Garden City residents ages three-and-a-half through adult, which are non-performance based. Age is determined by the start date of the desired class. The schedule and fees for this year's youth classes are as follow (all classes are 55 minutes long unless otherwise noted):

To register pick up an application at the recreation office in village hall. You can also make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering this month and the classes and codes for which you are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City." Walk-in registrations are now also being accepted. The recreation department cannot be held responsible for delays in the mail. The Garden City Recreation Department's children's tennis lessons began Sept. 24 and run through December. There is now limited availability in the classes. For more information or to register, visit the recreation department in village hall. This tennis program is for children ages 9 and up who are ready to take their tennis skills to the next level by playing intramural matches in a minimally supervised, fun environment. A child must be able to serve from the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score and have a general understanding of the rules of tennis. Screening for this program will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. You must register for this screening. The cost of the 10-week program is $160.
