Garden City firefighters responded to a Wyatt Road house fire Aug. 1 at 8:02 p.m. According to reports, the fire started in the kitchen and had vented from the two first floor windows before firefighters were on scene.
Captain Frank noted that rapid placement of the first hose line "confined the fire to the kitchen/dining room and quickly knocked down the fire." If fire had extended out of the dining room and went up the stairs the damage would have been much worse, he added.
The house suffered extensive smoke and heat damage. The Hempstead, West Hempstead, Mineola and Westbury fire departments provided mutual aid. Firefighters were on scene until approximately 10:30 p.m.
