The recreation department will sponsor its summer chess club at the Garden City Library until Aug. 21 in the library's lower level meeting room. Any resident in Grades 3-8 is invited to attend this free program. Paul Dooher will again moderate the club. The recreation department invites all students in grades 6-10 to attend a trip to Splish Splash Water Park in Suffolk County. The trip will take place Tuesday, July 31. The recreation bus will leave St. Paul's at 9 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Recreation staff will supervise the trip. The cost of this trip is $23. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall. Payment, in cash, will be needed at the time of registration. For further information, call the recreation office at 465-4075. Trips to Adventureland Amusement Park in Farmingdale have again been scheduled for each of the five neighborhood parks this summer. This trip is open to any resident ages 8-14 years old. Trips will depart from the parks at 11 a.m. and will return there at approximately 4 p.m. Playground staff will provide supervision for these trips. The cost of the trip is $18. The trips will be taken according to the following schedule: Nassau Haven, Tullamore, Edgemere Parks Friday, July 27 For further information, visit the playground nearest your home. The park programs are in full swing and open to children ages 6-14. The parks directors, Rich, Kristian, Greg, Anthony, Brad and Ryan, have planned games, field days and trips for residents of the village to enjoy. There is also "make and take it" arts and crafts for ages 6-12 in each park at 10 a.m. Visit the parks and join in the fun. The recreation department has reserved tickets on consignment for some of the best amusement parks in the area. These tickets can be purchased at any time this summer in the recreation office in village hall and are good for any time this season. Cash or check will be accepted. The very popular stretch class for adults is being offered from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. This is different from what was published last week. The cost of this six-week program is $48. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall. The field house will be open from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday nights for adult open basketball. This is a free program open to any resident of Garden City aged 18 and over. Games are strictly pickup and no teams are allowed. This program will continue until Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce their 2007 Summer Gazebo Concert Series. All concerts are held on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the gazebo on the corner of Stewart and Hilton avenues. Please bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening. In case of bad weather, the concert would be moved into Cluett Hall.

Community Park's new mini golf course is now open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Improvements to the area have created a spectacular course sure to please any mini golf devotee. Rates for the course are as follows:

Residents under 12/residents 65 or older: $3

Residents 12 or older: $5

Non-resident under 12: $4

Non-resident 12 or older: $6

Please note that until construction is finished in the area, monies will be collected at the tennis hut located just north of the tennis facility. You will then be given a ticket to turn in to the attendant at the mini golf area.

The summer session of yoga began this week. Connie McKnight, certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with ages in mind. Each 12-week course costs $60 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows: Mondays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. To register for any of these classes, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department will conduct a preschool camp for girls and boys three-and-a-half to 5 years old. Children who attend this camp must be three-and-a-half years by the start of the season. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session is $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one-and-one-half-hour class. These sessions are as follows:

Session IV: July 30 through Aug. 3

Session V: Aug. 6 through Aug. 10

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.

You can also make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session and classes for which you are registering. There are limited openings available in the half-day soccer camp the weeks of July 30 and Aug. 6. The full-day camp is now filled. A child must be 6 years old and entering first grade by the time of the camp in order to attend. For further information or to register, visit the recreation office in village hall.

The recreation department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Camp at Community Park's Roller Hockey Rinks. The camp will be a combination of skill-driven activities and pick up games. This camp is open to any village resident 5-10 years old.

The week of camp will be as follows:

Monday, Aug. 13 - Thursday, Aug. 16

Ages 5-8: 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Ages 9-10: 10:30 a.m. to noon
