The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce their 2007 Summer Gazebo Concert Series. All concerts are held on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Gazebo on the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues. Please bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening. In case of bad weather, the concert would be moved into Cluett Hall.

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce the opening of Community Park's new mini golf course. Due to some safety concerns with the nearby softball fields, the course will be open during the hours listed below until the safety fencing is installed. Until further notice, the hours are: Friday and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Mondays through Thursdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The fees have been set for residents and non-residents: $3 for resident seniors and children under 12; $5 for residents over 12; $4 for non-resident children under 12 and $6 for non-residents over 12. For information, call Community Park at 483-2525.
The summer session of yoga began this week. Connie McKnight, certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with ages in mind. Each 12-week course costs $60 and each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.
The course schedule is as follows: Mondays at 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. To register for any of these classes, visit the recreation office in village hall.
There are limited openings available in the tennis camps. The tennis camps are held at the Community Park tennis facility and are open to Garden City residents ages 7-18. Please visit the recreation office in village hall for further details.

The recreation department will conduct a preschool camp for girls and boys 3 1/2 to 5 years old. Children who attend this camp must be three-and-a-half years by the start of the season. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session is $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one-and-one-half-hour class. These sessions are as follows:

Session III: July 23 through July 27
Session IV: July 30 through Aug. 3
Session V: Aug. 6 through Aug. 10

The recreation department will offer a lacrosse camp for boys and girls entering grades 3-6 in September. The program will teach participants stick handling, catching, scooping and the fundamentals of the game. The children will also play games in a structured setting. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary. Wally Cook, a certified lacrosse referee and coach, will conduct the program on the fields at Stewart Field. The camp will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day. This camp will be held during the following weeks:

The recreation department will conduct a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who live in Garden City during the weeks of July 30 - Aug. 2 and Aug. 6-9 at Community Park (behind the pool). This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls ages 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September in order to register. Proof of age will be required. The two-hour session will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $125. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by the soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.

There are still openings in the summer baseball camp for 9-11 year olds. This camp will take place at Community Park the weeks of July 16 and July 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please visit the recreation office in village hall for further details.
The recreation department will be conducting a youth basketball camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City from June 25-28. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy. An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering Grades 3 and 4 in September from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering Grades 5 and 6 in September from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session. The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important of all, fun. The cost of this camp will be $60, which includes a T-shirt.

The recreation department is offering a summer Roller Hockey Camp at Community Park's Roller Hockey Rinks. The camp will be a combination of skill-driven activities and pick up games. This camp is open to any village resident 5-10 years old. All participants are required to supply their own equipment.

If you reside in Garden City, are 18 and older and would like to play softball in one of the recreation department's softball leagues, call 465-4075 to put your name on the player list. The department sometimes has coaches who are looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address and phone number and the department will keep your information on file for the team that is looking for players.
