Nassau County Firefighters Museum Hosts First 'Senior Fire Safety' Program
With an eye toward reducing the number of fire-related deaths and injuries among senior citizens, the Francis X. Pendl Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center, April 18, offered its first Senior Fire Safety Program, geared toward older adults on Long Island. The program was launched with the assistance of Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, who arranged for the first group of seniors to attend the inaugural session through the town's Department of Senior Enrichment.

Resident Reminder: School Budget Vote May 15
Residents are reminded to head out to the polls Tuesday, May 15 to vote on the $90,443,112 proposed 2007-08 Garden City School District budget, which breaks down as follows: $9,716,43 or 10.74 percent for administration, which includes costs for administration, supervision, curriculum and legal services; $67,102,585 or 74.20 percent for program, which includes costs for salaries, supplies and pupil services involved in the instruction and transportation of students in kindergarten through grade 12; and $13,623,090 or 15.06 percent for capital, which includes costs for inter-fund transfers for capital expenditures, bus and van purchases, utilities, salaries and supplies for the maintenance of school buildings and grounds.
