On Monday evening, May 7, at 6 p.m. at The Garden City Hotel, the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club will hold its annual Community Service Award dinner in honor of Roger Eltringham, the 17th recipient of this prestigious award that recognizes the spirit of volunteerism and commitment to community service. Roger is recognized for his myriad contributions to the Village of Garden City and beyond. Additionally, the event will also commemorate the memory of Stephen Dooley, past president of the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club and beloved Rotarian.
A resident of Garden City since 1983, Eltringham has served as president of numerous organizations. He is a past president of the Garden City Jaycees; past president/trustee of the Leukemia Society of America; of the Cherry Valley Cooperative Apartments and of the Kiwanis Club of Garden City. He also served as the distinguished past lieutenant governor of the Long Island South Central Division of New York State Kiwanis. Having served as president of the Eastern Property Owners' Association of Garden City (EPOA), Roger also served as past president of the Joint Conference of Garden City's POAs.
Roger's additional and most current contributions to the Village of Garden City include service as race director of the Merrill Lynch Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot for the past 27 years. This past year, the race committee was able to present more than $1 million to their benefiting charities and fully expect to go over the top for the 2007 event! Roger is past secretary-treasurer and current president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. In 1998, the chamber named him "Citizen of the Year" commemorating outstanding volunteerism to the village. During his tenure as chamber president, Roger is determined to maintain an open-line of communication with the Village of Garden City in addressing mutual issues and concerns. He strongly supports the completion of the Franklin Avenue streetscape beautification from Eleventh to Fifteenth Streets. Additionally, to implement a fresh new look, Roger is also spearheading a project to replace the 12-year-old decorative, seasonal light pole banners along Franklin Avenue, which greatly enhance the look of Garden City's main business thoroughfare, thereby capturing the character and essence of Garden City.
Without doubt, Roger's many works and many associations contribute substantially to the fabric of Garden City. Professionally, Roger is vice president of sales and marketing, Allianceplus, Inc., 1050 Franklin Avenue, Garden City.
The members of the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club proudly salute Roger Eltringham as the recipient of the 2007 "Community Service Award" and invite friends and associates to attend this festive Awards Dinner saluting this remarkable honoree.
